Big Sky Chapter Happenings
The Big Sky Chapter of the Logistics Officer Association (LOA), Malmstrom AFB, MT, had a productive 2005. Our annual essay contest for three educational scholarships for enlisted troops was a big success. This years' essay question was "How would reopening Malmstrom AFB's Flight line affect logistics/maintenance on Malmstrom?". The Big Sky Chapter sponsored the first ever Maintenance Heritage Reunion at Malmstrom AFB. We invited enlisted and officer maintainers that had worked on missiles at Malmstrom AFB. This event brought over 50 individuals and families from all over the country to participate in tours of the missile maintenance facilities and a dining out. What a great opportunity this was for old and new maintainers to talk over how the business has changed in the last 30+ years at Malmstrom. Also, a group sponsored by the 341st Maintenance Group and the Big Sky Chapter (LOA), visited Fairchild Air Force Base, Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor and McChord Air Force Base. The highlights of the trip inc luded the Museum of Flight, an operational nuclear submarine tour, the USS Alaska, the Naval Undersea Museum, a C-17 static display tour, a McChord LOA luncheon, and Special Forces operational squadron tour. The real success of this trip was the information that our members brought back to our LOA Chapter. We are looking forward to 2006 being a banner year with our new executive council taking over.
