Dolomite Chapter 1st Qtr Update, FY 06
The 31FW Dolomite Chapter has been on the go the last several months.  In mid January, our AEF-7 troops "Returned With Honor" from Balad AB, Iraq where the 555th EAMU (within the 332 EAMXS) kept the heritage alive by driving home record setting sortie/MC rate stats.  In addition, several LROs are deployed with an Embedded Training Team (ETT) in western Kabul, Afghanistan supporting the Afghanistan National Army HQ Logistics Command Fuel Depot.  The ETT is teaching the Afghan people how to set-up or restructure their current transportation and supply networks.
On 19 Jan 06, we opened our annual membership drive and hosted the 31 FW Command Chief, Pamela Lane, as our guest speaker.  Chief Lane spoke to the Chapter about dealing with tough enlisted corps challenges, finding the right balance in force shaping, and understanding what the enlisted troops expect from maintenance officers.  Additionally, we've revamped our website to include Chapter goals, an events calendar, and quarterly updates on our Chapter events.  We are currently in the planning stages for sponsoring this year's Maintenance Professional of the Year golf tournament.  The Dolomite Chapter will cover all golf expenses for each award nominee.  Lastly, several LOA members are getting up-front experiences with their first TDYs as project officers.  Both the 555th and 510th AMUs are deploying to Zaragoza, Spain and Site 53 over the next several months.  Hopefully, we will have an opportunity to share their experiences with the LOA community.

Dolomite Chapter 2nd Qtr Update, FY 06
The Dolomite Chapter is rockin' & rollin' through 2006!  In March, we held our first ever CGO vs. FGO Bowl-Off. A close 2 game battle ensued, with the commanders claiming victory by 11 points with a 2 game average total of 261 points. They won the coveted "Prize Pin" to hold for one year until the '07 rematch. Our 20-member Professional Reading Club recently finished Victory at Yorktown and held a discussion luncheon to review the logistical and leadership successes that resulted in the Continental Army's triumph in the last great battle of the Civil War.  In April, we held our Logistician Swap Day that provided CGOs from across the base an opportunity to experience "the other side".  LROs launched F-16s and Maintenance Officers delved into world of the
IDO.

Finally, we finished the month with our largest service project to date, the LOA sponsored 31 MXG MPOY Golf Tournament.  Four-man teams competed to win free dinners, gift certificates and golf equipment.  The highlights were the JFS-pump-handle putt, blind drive and 45-second putt contest!  All proceeds from the tournament directly supported the annual MPOY Banquet.

Why become a LOA Member?

LOA National is a nonprofit, professional educational organization with no official affiliation with the USAF. LOA promotes professional growth among its members through the cross flow of information on aviation maintenance policies, technical innovations and other logistics issues.  LOA boasts over 3,500 members, including key aircraft and munitions maintenance, logistics readiness, transportation, supply, contracting and logistics plans decision-makers in the Air Force and other services. A benefit of LOA involves chapter membership and activities associated with a local chapter (Aviano Dolomite Chapter).  Chapter activities facilitate professional development, tours, technical exchanges, officership, job searches, mentoring and camaraderie. The Exceptional Release is the professional journal of LO, and is FREE with your paid $25 yearly membership fee. Published quarterly, the ER is filled with articles and editorials on the latest logistics topics. An annual highlight is our national conference--a great opportunity for logisticians to hear about issues facing their profession directly from the senior leaders who guide DoD logistics. Lastly, membership entitles you to other great LOA programs like the Scholarship Program, Mentorship Program and Corporate Memberships.
