BARBAROSSA CHAPTER (RAMSTEIN AND SEMBACH AIR BASE, GERMANY)

We started the year by introducing our new chapter leadership. Major Richard "Storm" Peterson is the President, Lt Col BJ Marshall is the Vice President, Capt Phil Noltemeyer is the Professional Development Officer, 1LT Doug Gilliam is the Treasurer, and 1LT James Schieser is the Information Officer. Our Chapter Leadership is comprised of officers from the 86 AW, 435 ABW, and HQ USAFE. Our Senior Advisors are Brig Gen Rosanne Bailey and Brig Gen Jay Lindell.  The Barbarossa chapter is actively working to strengthen our organization.  We have over 100 members eligible for LOA, and our goal is to increase national membership by at least 10% and chapter membership by 330% during 2004. Other chapter goals include quarterly meetings, hosting of two activities per year, and the development of FGO mentorship program for CGOs.  Our first LOA event this year was co-sponsored by the Barbarossa Chapter and the Ramstein Chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA). The theme of this meeting was Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Innovations to Provide Better Support to the Warfighter. Our guest speaker for this event was Vice Admiral Lippert, the Director of DLA. The second LOA event this year brought together some of our local senior leadership and our members. During this event senior leadership present career advice and perspective to our members. We look forward to another event like this in the near future and hope to discuss the Logistics Readiness Officer career field in more detail.  This fall our organization is planning a golf outing that we hope will provide an opportunity members from both Rhein Main and Spangdahlem chapters to join us and share some of their experiences. Each of our locations has unique missions and specific challenges as we prepare for Rhein Main to move their operations to Spangdahlem and Ramstein. It is an exciting year to be in Germany and we look forward to taking advantage of the opportunities afforded our membership. Auf Wedersehen!
