GATEWAY CHAPTER (SCOTT AFB, ILLINOIS)

The Gateway Chapter at Scott AFB is the largest chapter in Air Mobility Command and the fifth largest nationwide with almost 100 members. Scott AFB offers a large pool of logisticians from US Transportation Command, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, base level organizations such as the 375th Logistics Readiness Squadron, contractors, and retirees. Needless tosay, the Gateway Chapter stays busy!  With such a large population of members, it's often hard to meet monthly. Thus, we meet at least quarterly, and our unique Logistician of the Quarter Awards Program helps us keep to that schedule. Each quarter we highlight four outstanding logisticians (SNCO, NCO, AMN, and civilian). We host a luncheon and our Senior Chapter Advisor, Brig Gen Reno, hands out coins and certificates to the winners.  In between our quarterly awards ceremonies, we try to host a Leadership Forum. Over the past year, we brought in several guest speakers to enlighten our logistics perspective. Retired General Babbitt was one of our past speakers, while more recently Lt Col Brian Campbell, Chief of the 375th Life Skills Support Center, spoke with us about having fun at work. His "FISH" presentation was a great motivator and provided great life lessons for leaders and team members in any organization.  The Gateway Chapter was well represented at last October's National Conference, and Brig Gen Reno was one of the feature speakers. No doubt we will have a large group attend the next conference in Las Vegas!  During the first week of March, we are hosting a trip to the UPS hub in Louisville, Kentucky. This is a great opportunity for the logisticians on base to see how a civilian logistics center and air hub operates. We are planning a follow-on tour of the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, located in Kansas City, Missouri. We hope these trips provide a new perspective and an opportunity to round out our logisticians beyond the Air Force.  In a few weeks, we hope to unveil our new Gateway Chapter coin, featuring Scott AFB and St. Louis landmarks. Profits from the sale of the coin will help fund future LOA events, including the membership bash we are planning for this spring. The bash will serve as an avenue to bring in new members and provide current members with a much-needed celebration.  Finally, the tenure for our current chapter leadership is coming to an end as we elect new chapter officers this April. As you can see, the Gateway Chapter stays busy, and our new officers have big shoes to fill!
