Senior Leader Quote:  “Fellow loggies, the LOA National Conference, one of the highlights of my year, is right around the corner.  There are more professional development tours than ever before, a great golf tournament, the Rising Stars luncheon, and over 100 vendors.  Additionally, this year we have an unrivaled lineup of speakers, including the founder and Chairman of the Board for Southwest Airlines, Mr. Herb Kelleher and Lieutenant General CV Christiansen, Director for Logistics for the Joint Staff.  I'm truly looking forward to seeing you at the 2006 LOA National Conference in San Antonio, hosted by the Alamo Chapter.  It promises to be a great event!”

Website Upgrades:  LOA has contracted out a large portion of its website maintenance and support over the past year.  This change has allowed us to ensure continual enhancements are being made to the LOA website to improve service to our membership while minimizing the hours we volunteer.  By 1 Sep 06, the final changes will be implemented that will allow members the ability to post their resumes for corporate job offers, expanded chapter leader privileges to manage and connect with the chapter membership, ability manage your own chapter polls and dues due rosters, use a custom “contact us” feature that will automatically route your questions to the correct POC, expand our “forgot my userid/password” features to make it more self-service, improve our e-commerce reliability, etc.  Our end goal is to continue to provide member services that meet the needs our growing professional membership.

Chapter Highlights:  The Barbarossa Chapter is actively working to lay the foundation of future success by strengthening their membership.  For more on their activities, click http://www.loanational.org/chaptersupport/aug06-barbarossa.asp.  Let the rest of LOA know what is happening in your chapter with and an update in the LOA Newsletter.  Send you input with a picture if possible to chaptersupport@loanational.org.

National Conference:  The LOA Conference is just around the corner and if you haven’t made your plans to attend, please take the opportunity to do that now as this year’s conference promises to be a fantastic experience.  The golf tournament at The Quarry will be one of your best golfing experiences ever.  The hotels that are available for reservations are some of the finest in San Antonio and each one is located in the middle of Texas’ most visited vacation spot, the River Walk.  While these opportunities provide you an exciting personal experience, there is also an outstanding agenda which will benefit you professionally including discussions with the Air Force’s senior logistics leaders, briefings on the state and direction of logistics and a professional tour schedule that has something for everyone.  If you have not yet registered, time is getting short so go to the web site now at http://www.loanational.org/conference and register today!

ER:  Do you have a burning issue or interesting topic you’d like to share with your fellow LOA members?  Or, perhaps you’d like to learn more about a particular logistics topic.  Whether you’ve got information to share, or a question to ask, the staff of your ER publication wants to hear from you.  Drop a line to editor@loanational.org with your story, question, or idea for an ER theme.  Deadline for the Winter 2006 issue is 1 Oct 06.

LOA History:  MOA & LOA National Presidents Series:  Lt Col Brian Grady, 1989 – 1990.  Lt Col Brian Grady was elected by members as the Maintenance Officer Association’s sixth president.  Lt Col Grady was a career munitions maintenance officer, serving on the Air Staff as the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Program Manager while MOA President.  He also graduated ICAF (Industrial College of the Armed Forces) in 1990.  Although MOA was financially stable and membership was stronger than ever in 1989, Lt Col Grady challenged members with growing “their” local chapters.  His message to the membership was clear:  “MOA will do for you what you want it to, but you must be active.”  He clearly made membership in MOA a contact sport.  As MOA ushered in the new decade, Lt Col Grady’s vision was a MOA that provided, “avenues for maintainers to cross-feed, share, teach, and motivate one another.”  Of course these are still key LOA goals today, as set in motion by the pioneers of our great organization.

The Bottom Line:  As always, remember our organization is all about the troops.  Our focus will continue to be on training our replacements, and sharing ideas.  If you have any announcements you would like to be considered for inclusion in our monthly newsletter, please send in your completed inputs nlt the 5th day of the month to infoofficer@loanational.org.

Keep our deployed troops and families in your thoughts.
