 LOA Vision
“A Professional organization devoted to promoting quality logistics, professional development of logistics officers, and an open forum for leadership, management, and technical interchange.”

Senior Leader Quote:  I just got my Winter 2005 Exceptional Release in the mail and I was very impressed.  The quality of the articles are topical and relevant.  I especially found Avoiding Logistics Lockjaw enlightening on the subject of contingency contracting.  The article about Incirlik's cargo ops was equally informative on the new mission they are performing in support of CENTCOM. The ER is a great tool for professional development and just another reason that I think LOA is the premier professional organization.  I am proud to be a LOA member.  As the new Director of  Logistics Readiness (The Head LRO if you will), I look forward to working with each of you as we carry out the mission of LOA and the USAF!

Brig Gen Gary McCoy, Director of Logistics Readiness, DCS/Installations and Logistics

A Message from the LOA President:  Wow...what a year!  Your LOA National Team is committed to accomplishing even more in 2006!  I encourage each and every one of you to make a New Year's resolution to get involved in your local LOA chapter.  As you know, LOA is about the membership and for the membership.  Your involvement determines the success of our organization.  This newsletter is just one forum to read and learn about what LOA members are doing in your Air Force.  The ER is yet another way...and I encourage each and every one of you to submit topics/issues of interest to logisticians.  Your local Chapter Presidents and your LOA National Team stand ready to make LOA even better as we move forward to LOA 2006 in San Antonio.  Thanks for all you support and let's have a great year!

Chapter Highlights:   The Desert Lightning Chapter at Davis-Monthan AFB recently conducted an Industry Exchange Tour at Raytheon--to read more about the trip, check out http://www.loanational.org/chaptersupport/dm_jan06.asp.  By popular demand we have DVDs available to each chapter with the briefings from the LOA Conference.  Chapter Presidents if you haven't already done so, send you mailing address to chaptersupport@loanational.org to receive your copy.

National Conference:  Happy New Year All!  We are gearing up for the National Conference in San Antonio 9-12 October 2006 at the Henry Gonzalez Convention Center on the beautiful San Antonio River Walk!  Be sure to watch the LOA website for the latest conference info.  The theme is set:  Sustaining Today's Weapons Systems with Tomorrow's Airmen.  Additionally, we’ve negotiated a great conference rate at several hotels, but you have to reserve your rooms through the LOA conference website to get the conference rates.  The link is not active yet—but will be soon.  Finally, exhibit booth layout for the conference is in final stages; as soon as the Fire Marshal approves it we’ll start selling booths.

ER:  The Winter ER is out, if you haven’t gotten your copy, you should soon.  The theme is ”Sandbox Logistics”.  You’ll also enjoy the conference wrap up in the winter issue.  Thanks to all who have contributed.  Interested in contributing an article to the ER?  The Summer ‘06 theme will be ”The Technology Issue”.  So send us those stories!  The deadline for the Summer issue is Mar 15th.

LOA History:  Logistics Officer Association:  The Recent Years:  2002 – 2003.  From MOA to LOA, 2002  was our organization’s 20th Anniversary!  MOA founder, Lt Col (Ret) Larry Matthews captivated the LOA Nat'l Conference audience in Washington, D.C. with his keynote speech recalling MOA’s humble beginnings.  LOA hailed 2003 as the “Year of the Member” as membership surpassed the 2,000 milestone for the first time!  LOA’s Mentor Program was also undergoing a reengineering to best meet the needs of its junior members.  The Air Force was fighting the Global War on Terror with resources across every command supporting the effort.  Agile Combat Support was the focus as Operation Iraqi Freedom raged on.  No doubt expeditionary logistics was no longer a concept…but a reality.

Membership:   Membership at Hill AFB is on the move!  Hill AFB now is the 6th largest chapter (up from 10th). And have committed to climb even higher.  Under the leadership of Capt John Tran and his team of Wasatch Warriors, the membership has increased by 40 members.  This is a 35% rise.  Congratulations to the Wasatch Warriors and welcome to all their new members.

Franchises:  Yes, you heard it here; we are going out for business!   Especially for the Golfer, the Sonoran Chapter at Luke AFB is offering three great products!  First, an awesome LOA Golf towel which comes in Black or Navy with hook and grommet installed and the LOA logo embroidered in silver--very nice for only $15.   Next, a very handy Silver divot tool, ball marker and key chain with the LOA logo laser engraved for only $9.   Finally, the chapter is offering a Par Pack, golf and tees set (w/ Pinnacle Gold Distance, others makes available, please ask for more information) for $11.   Price does not include Shipping.  Large orders are highly encouraged and may include free shipping.  To order today, contact Capt Dave Bartelson dave.bartelson@luke.af.mil,  1Lt James Kepka  james.kepka@luke.af.mil, or 1Lt Sean Stowe sean.stowe@luke.af.mil or visit the LOA National website at http://www.loanational.org/merchandise.asp!

The Bottom Line:  As always, remember our organization is all about the troops.  Our focus will continue to be on training our replacements, and sharing ideas.  If you have any announcements you would like to be considered for inclusion in our monthly newsletter, please send in your completed inputs nlt the 5th day of the month to infoofficer@loanational.org.

Keep our deployed troops and families in your thoughts.
