 LOA Vision
“A Professional organization devoted to promoting quality logistics, professional development of logistics officers, and an open forum for leadership, management, and technical interchange.”

Senior Leader Quote:  "One of the greatest aspects of LOA is our commitment to the professional development of our replacements.  To that end, LOA provides some resources to encourage our young troops to achieve their educational goals.  Our scholarship program is part of that effort.  The LOA scholarship program is intended to assist the most deserving Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine, Coast Guard, National Guard, or Reserve enlisted or DoD civilian (grade GS-1 through GS-8 and WG-1 through WG-9) in a logistics specialty, with college expenses towards an associate or bachelor degree.  It is targeted toward a professional logistician seeking a commission or further advancement in a logistics related career.  It is not too early to start considering which of your outstanding personnel you will want to nominate for a scholarship.  To date, we have given over $40,000 dollars to deserving logisticians in pursuit of a commission.  I encourage you to support this effort by nominating those that work for you and support your local chapter efforts to raise money for this outstanding program."
~Mark D. Johnson, SES Deputy Director of Maintenance, DCS/Logistics, Installations & Mission Support

A Message from the LOA President:  "As you saw in the April Newsletter, it is time to nominate your eligible folks for a LOA Scholarship...and I could not agree more with Mr. Johnson.  I look forward to congratulating all the Scholarship winners at LOA 2006.  As you know, the conference is not far away and your LOA National Board as well as the Alamo Chapter are well into the planning phase of putting on the best conference ever.  As of today, you can reserve your room via the LOA Website and in less then two weeks you can register for the conference.  I encourage you to do both as early as you can as space and time will prevent you from attending the conference.  Further, we are in the middle of accepting nominations for your next LOA National Board.  So, if you're looking for a rewarding position as President, Vice-President, Treasurer or Information Officer of the Logistics Officer Association, contact Col Art Cameron, 309 MXW/CC, at art.cameron@hill.af.mil or phone Comm: 801-777-5076.  Specific information on the process can be found on the LOA website at http://www.loanational.org/guidance.asp"

Loggie Announcements:    AS9100 Registration:  The 309th Maintenance Wing of the Ogden Air Logistics Center, Hill AFB has successfully met all requirements for AS9100 registration (aerospace derivative of ISO 9001:2000) for management systems, meaning the 309 MXW has sustainable processes in place to produce a quality product each and every time.  This registration gives the 309 MXW a considerable and competitive advantage for future workloads that require aerospace industry partnering such as the F-22, F-35 and C-17 systems.  Finally, this registration also gives the 309 MXW a “leg up” in meeting the requirements for Air Force Smart Operations 21st Century (AFSO21).  For more information, please contact Mr. Doug Dynes, 309 MXG, at Comm/DSN:  801/777-7330.

We are shooting to open registration late this month—so watch the website or your mailbox for notification.  Hotel reservations are open—make your reservations early to ensure the great conference rate we have negotiated.  Keep in mind that we will run a shuttle bus from the hotels to the conference center for your convenience.  To make Hotel reservations just go to: http://www.loanational.org/conference/hotel2006.asp

ER:  Summer ER is the Technology issue; is in the works now and we have a load of stories for our 100th issue.  You should have that issue in your mailbox in June.  Fall ER theme is Sustaining Today's Weapon Systems with Tomorrow's Airmen (same as the conference theme).  Deadline for submissions is 15 July.  Submissions are piling up, so if you have a submission, please send it to editor@loanational.org for consideration.

LOA History:  MOA & LOA National Presidents Series: Lt Col Ed Moitoza, 1985 – 1986  Lt Col Ed Moitoza was the Maintenance Officer Association’s third national president.  He was definitely a “dyed-in-the-wool” career maintenance officer.  From the outset, his “Boardroom” focused on dealing with MOA’s rapid growth to over 650 members in 1985, and setting future direction for the association.  Lt Col Moitoza was an energetic, savvy president, championing such things as Maintenance Officer professional development and inserting the final links into MOA’s Regional Director network.  He was also instrumental in continuing to grow “MOA in Europe.”  Lt Col Moitoza will forever be remembered as MOA’s president at the time the Air Force “Maintenance” badge was introduced, identifying Maintenance Officers to the “outside world.”
