Senior Leader Quote:
"I attended the 2005 LOA Conference in Atlanta last week and it was outstanding.  I was duly impressed by the quality of the speakers, the professionalism of the organization and the level of support from our corporate members.  This was by far the best conference that I've attended in my 28 year career.  Congratulations to the entire LOA team for a job well done!"

A Message from the LOA President:  If you were one of the lucky 1,200 LOA members that had a chance to attend the 2005 Conference at Atlanta, I want to thank you for your support.  I hope we provided you with a better sense of what your Air Force is doing with Expeditionary Logistics in the 21st Century (eLog21).  Further, through the many and varied presentations, we hope we sparked an interest you may want to explore further as you understand your roll and contributions to eLog21.   My thanks to the LOA Middle Georgia Chapter and your National LOA Executive Board for their time and effort in making this a huge success and contributor to your logistics professional development.   Finally, don’t forget to check out the Winter ER for a peek at LOA 2005 and gain a sense on what we need to accomplish as we approach LOA 2006 in San Antonio!

Franchises:  Most LOA members shiver when they think of Minot Air Force Base.  But our Guardians of the North chapter went out of their way to prove there’s more than snow up in Minot! Their new National LOA franchise item is a   15-oz clear glass tankard mug with the LOA National emblem laser-engraved on one side with a a distinct plate on the other side that can house the emblem of the military branch of your choice: U.S. Air Force, U.S Navy, U.S. Army, U.S. Marines and even the U.S. Coast Guard.  But that’s not it; there’s even a two-inch pewter emblem where you can have a name engraved (up to 10 letters).  Cost is $20 plus shipping and handling.  Go to the National LOA website http://www.loanational.org/merchandise.asp to order one today!

ER:  The Winter ER is in design stages and should be in your boxes by the holidays.  The theme for the Winter ER is “Sandbox Logistics”.  Thanks to all who submitted stories- we had so many great submissions it was hard to choose.  Also in the winter issue is the 2005 National Conference scrap book.  Photos from the conference will soon also be available on the website for your viewing and downloading pleasure.  The Spring 2006 ER theme is “Joint Logistics”.  If you have a story or an idea for one – please send it to me by 15 Jan 06 at loanational@cox.net.

LOA History:  Maintenance Officer Association:  The Transition Years:  1998 – 1999.  This month’s history snippet provides a look back at the historic transformation from Maintenance Officer Association (MOA) to Logistics Officer Association (LOA).  MOA was 16 years young in 1998 and had been with the Air Force for almost one third of its history.  Although a motion to re-name MOA to LOA had been rejected at Conference ’96, many MOA chapters began calling themselves “Logistics Officer Associations” as they believed that best represented their member group.  In 1998 National LOA President Colonel Rich Stocchetti decided it was time once again to charge members with re-defining the association’s vision.  The basic question was whether the organization should continue to “specialize” in maintenance, or “generalize” in logistics.  Strong points were made supporting each, and finally, by mail-in ballot, the majority of MOA’s more than 750 members declared that MOA should become LOA.  The first National LOA President, Colonel Jim Hass, announced the change in the spring ’99 edition of the Exceptional Release.  So it was on May 1st, 1999 the re-creation of our organization as the Logistics Officer Association.  It made sense and fit the way Air Force logistics was headed.  The time had come to recognize the greater need for all USAF logisticians to belong to a professional development organization.  See you next month!

Chapter Highlights:  The monthly newsletter gives chapter leaders a great venue to highlight the accomplishments of both their chapters and their individual members.  Just jot down a few lines about what your members are doing and send them to chaptersupport@loanational.org for inclusion in next month's edition.

The Bottom Line:  As always, remember our organization is all about the troops.  Our focus will continue to be on training our replacements, and sharing ideas.

Keep our deployed troops and families in your thoughts.
