MEMORANDUM FOR LOA RAPTOR CHAPTER MEMBERS
FROM: Raptor Chapter President
SUBJ: Meeting minutes for Friday, 31 Aug 01, LOA meeting:
The purpose of the meeting was to conduct official business and receive a WEG Mission Briefing presented by Capt Rios. In addition, Maj Roberts gave a Missile Maintenance career field briefing. The following issues were discussed:
Old Business:
- Treasurer's Report; $235.62 in the account and $145 on hand. There was a $25 expenditure from last report due to paying $25 fee to National LOA for web site space
- LOA Scholarships: we recently learned that Tyndall did not win one of the five National LOA scholarships. The five winners will receive $2,000 each and will receive their awards at the National Conference
- Golf Tournament: Lt Bestrain has not picked a date yet for the next LOA Golf Tournament. More to come
- LOA Trip: Capt Vessels is working our next trip, currently planning to visit the depot at WR-ALC. Some planning has been made to visit the F-15 and C-5 depots as well as the Avionics repair facility. A tentative date of Friday, 2 Nov is set; plan would be to drive up Thurs, 1 Nov and have the tour Friday. Trip would be permissive TDY. More to come
- Raptor Chapter Web Site is up and running. Capt Rios is welcome to ideas and suggestions to make it better. We paid a $25 yearly fee to National LOA for the web site space
- LOA Table: Capt Minnick is researching cost of LOA table to put in O’Club bar. Once final cost is determined it will be put to the membership for consideration. More to come
New Business:
- National LOA Conference quickly approaching; 3-5 Oct 01 in Atlanta, GA.
-- Registration Forms are on the National LOA web site and deadline for registration is 15 Sep 01
-- Maj Koerkenmeyer had previously volunteered to head organizing the Tyndall contingent, however due to a no-notice TDY she will not be able to attend. We are looking for someone who plans to attend the meeting to organize our Tyndall effort. Maj Koerkenmeyer still has a block of rooms reserved at the conference so those who plan to attend can ask for one of those rooms in her name when you call to make your own reservation
-- Don’t forget to get your Tyndall Raptor Chapter LOA shirt before going to the Conference!
- Upcoming speakers/meetings:
-- AFPC Functionals will be here 13/14 Sep. They will be giving an assignments briefing at 1400 hrs, 13 Sep, in the WEG Auditorium. All loggies officers are invited and encouraged to attend. We will also be setting up individual/personal appointments to meet with the assignments officers 13th and 14th. Lt Godwin is organizing the personal appointments and he will get out more information later this week
-- National LOA Conference, 3-5 Oct
-- BGen Hodgkins, 325 FW/CC, will be our guest speaker Friday, 12 Oct at the O’Club. Meeting begins at 1530 hrs in the Eagle Rm. Afterwards we’ll head to the bar for those interested that little extra “mentoring”
--
28 Sep, 1500 hrs, 1 AF will host the LOA.
Maj Leslie will provide the 1 AF Mission Briefing.
Meeting will be in the 1 AF Conf Rm.
This meeting may change due to tentative UTE Day planned.
More to come
- I’d like to add a special thanks to the WEG folks, particularly Maj Roberts and Capt Rios, for their hospitality and the super briefings they presented. There were 17 LOA members present and we had tours of the E-9 and QF-4 aircraft, received a WEG mission brief, and learned about the Missile Maintenance career field. This is what LOA is all about - professional development and broadening knowledge of the various Air Force missions. Thanks again!
-
If you have any recommendations or suggestions to make the LOA better, or
something you’d like to see discussed at future meetings, please let Lt Col
Coomer or me know.
