MEMORANDUM FOR LOA RAPTOR CHAPTER MEMBERS

SUBJ:  Meeting minutes for Thursday, 6 June 2002, LOA meeting:

            The purpose of the meeting was to learn about the new USAF Logistics School.  Lt Col. Steve “Fonzi” Morani was the guest briefer from Nellis AFB, NV.  He came to educate us on the Air Force’s response to the void of formal training for logistics officers.  The briefing was followed by a Q&A session.   The following issues were discussed:

--             20th Anniversary LOA Conference: 3-6 Sept 02 in Washington DC

-         Lt Col Steve Morani spoke to us about the USAF AEF Logistics School at Nellis AFB, NV.  Here are some answers to a few FAQs.  For more detailed answers, please see the slide show.

      WHY ARE THEY CREATING THE USAF AEF LOGISTICS SCHOOL?

      --No centralized training focused on contingency logistics  

      --Need a logistics integrator at the tactical level

      WHEN IS THIS GOING TO HAPPEN?

      --Mar-Jun 02->Cadre build lesson plans

      --Aug 02  >Central board for student selection

      --Jan-Jun 03->First class

      --12 students/class    2 classes/yr

      WHERE IS THE CLASS GOING TO BE HELD?

      --Interim facility-> Old hospital

      --Target construction of customized facility-> Sep 02-Apr 03

            WHAT KIND OF CURRICULUM WILL THE COURSE FEATURE?

            -- 22-week course

            -- 7 blocks

            --Hands-on applications throughout

            WHAT’S THE CRITERIA TO BE ACCEPTED?

            --Must be a Capt, no more than 9 yrs commissioned

            --SOS completed  (see slide show)

            HOW ARE WE SELECTED?

            --Modeled after Weapons School

                        - Wing/CC submits prioritized candidates

                        - Semi-annual board

            WHAT IS REQUIRED OF AEFLS GRADUATES?

            -- 3 yr mandatory ADSC

            --Follow-on tier positions

            WHAT LIES IN THE FUTURE OF AEFLS?

            --Link to doctrine development

            --Center of Logistics Excellence concept
